Evolving Icons Since 1973
STORY OF BYBLOS
Founded in 1973 in Milan, Byblos quickly emerged as one of the most experimental and vibrant voices in Italian ready-to-wear. The brand was created to speak to a new generation: young, cosmopolitan, and eager for fashion that was bold, colorful, and unconventional.
From the very beginning, Byblos built its identity around creativity and transformation. Rather than following established codes, the brand constantly explored new visual languages, becoming a platform where emerging designers could experiment and redefine contemporary fashion.
The real turning point came in 1975, when a very young Gianni Versace, still at the beginning of his career, yet already driven by a strong and distinctive vision, took over the brand’s creative direction.

Under his leadership, Byblos began to define its own stylistic language: irreverent, vibrant, and theatrical, deeply aligned with the social and cultural shifts of the time.
Versace’s early collections introduced the concept of fashion as visual storytelling, with a strong focus on graphics, color, prints, and bold, theatrical silhouettes.

The Era of Keith Varty & Alan Cleaver

In the following years, the brand continued its path of experimentation under the guidance of visionary designers such as Guy Paulin, Keith Varty, and Alan Cleaver, transforming it into a true hub of innovation.
During this phase, Byblos established itself as one of the first Italian brands capable of combining the craftsmanship of Made in Italy production with a continuous, international, and provocative stylistic research.
Byblos thus became a laboratory of ideas before even being a fashion house a reference point for those seeking alternatives to the dominant aesthetic, paving the way for new visual codes that anticipated many of the trends that would emerge in the years to come.

In the 1990s and 2000s, the brand strengthened its disruptive and unconventional identity, expanding its presence in international markets and broadening its product portfolio with the launch of fragrances and eyewear.

Today

After nearly fifty years of history, Byblos enters the 21st century while preserving its core codes: a drive for transformation, continuous research, a strong focus on visual language, and fearless creativity.
In 2022, the brand opened a new strategic chapter with the appointment of Manuel Facchini as CEO and Creative Director. A designer with an international background and a graduate of the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London, Manuel Facchini brings to Byblos a contemporary, technological, and global vision, perfectly aligned with the brand’s original values.
The integration of AI into creative and communication processes, together with experimentation in augmented reality and a rethinking of digital platforms such as e-commerce and virtual showrooms, positions Byblos among the first Italian brands to adopt a truly hybrid vision. Manuel Facchini’s design blends sport-chic style, hi-tech aesthetics, and musical influences, while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and inclusivity. The brand’s language is young, gender-fluid, and energetic, where fashion returns to being content, a story and an immersive experience. The past is not abandoned but reinterpreted: the archive becomes an active source that fuels new collections, and references are not nostalgic, but tools for coherent evolution.
“Roots are not meant to keep us anchored to the past, but to generate momentum for the future. Everything begins there: every cut, every vision, every new direction. Byblos today is this: an identity in constant evolution, preserving its heritage as creative fuel. A bridge connecting what we have been, what we are, and what we are becoming. There is no innovation without memory. There is no style without transformation.”
Manuel Facchini, CEO & Creative Director
